Grandma’s chocolate brownie cake is the best we’ve had

When you were a kid, did your grandma have any secret recipes that she’d only pull out on special occasions? Chances are, the answer is a resounding yes—and those recipes were probably all of the family favorites. It’s no secret that when your grandma makes her favorite recipes, everyone in the family is going to want seconds. Although this rule definitely holds true for dinner recipes as well, the effect is twofold when it comes to dessert.

It’s this second kind of recipe that we have for you today. That’s because we’ve found a chocolate brownie cake recipe that is incredibly simple and incredibly flavorful. Although it may have been a secret recipe passed down from generation to generation, we’re exposing it for you all today. Our mouths are watering already… so let’s get started.

Here’s what you’ll need:

1 box of chocolate cake mix
1 box of fudge brownie mix
4 eggs
1 1/4 cups of water
1 cup of oil

1 cup of heavy whipping cream
1 12-ounce bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips

Here’s what you do:
1. Before getting started, make sure you preheat your oven to 350 degrees. After that, get out a Bundt pan and spray it down with cooking spray (or use butter and flour).

2. With your equipment prepared, mix together your chocolate cake mix, brownie mix, eggs, water and oil in a large mixing bowl. Whisk it all up for about two minutes, taking as many lumps out as possible so that the batter is nice and smooth.

3. When the batter is ready, pour it into the Bundt pan and put it in the oven to bake for about 50 to 55 minutes. When the time is up, do the toothpick test to be sure the cake is done. Let it sit in the pan for about five minutes before carefully turning it over onto a cooling rack. Leave it there for about 30 minutes.

4. With the cake itself done, you can now get started on making your ganache. First, get a microwave safe bowl and pour your heavy whipping cream into it. Microwave it for about 2 minutes so that the cream is only just boiling.

5. After that, pour your chocolate chips into the bowl as well—if the mixture begins to froth and rise up at this point, this is normal. Let it all sit together for about five minutes before whisking the chocolate and the cream together. Keep doing this until it’s well-incorporated, shiny and smooth throughout.

6. With all the ingredients done, pour your ganache over the cake when it’s cooled and you’re ready to serve!

Although the process of actually making this recipe is incredibly simple, the results are decadent and delicious. Combining the mixes leads to a cake that is both spongy, moist and firm at the same time—and the melted chocolate on top only takes everything up to the next level. While the recipe itself shouldn’t be altered too much, you can experiment with what kinds of cake and brownie mixes you use in the beginning. Obviously, the higher quality the chocolate, the better. Give this recipe a try and let us know what you think!

Garlic milk is the home remedy that’ll give you relief from sciatica and back pain lifestyle

When it comes to back pain, you have probably heard about and tried every cure under the sun. Back pain is the number one cause of disability around the world, and in the United States alone, one in 10 people experience some form of back problem.

Americans spend billions of dollars on spine treatments that promise to reduce or eliminate the pain, but the sad truth is that many of these remedies are doing you more harm than good.

Doctors and other specialists, like chiropractors, often just prescribe drugs and recommended exercise to soothe the pain, but these are just temporary solutions.

According to Dr Stuart McGill, a professor of spine biomechanics at the University of Waterloo, «so many treatments show up as ineffective is that they are used in an indiscriminate one-size fits-all way, rarely targeted on the underlying problem.»

Treatments that we’ve become so familiar with, including ultrasound, spinal injections, spinal fusion, disc replacement, TENS machines, and acupuncture, are no longer a part of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines because there is no strong evidence to support their effectiveness.

The lack of proper treatment is even worse for those who suffer from sciatica. Often affecting only one one side of the body, this debilitating condition occurs when «a herniated disk, bone spur on the spine or narrowing of the spine (spinal stenosis) compresses part of the nerve,» according to the Mayo Clinic.

People living with sciatica experience intense pain, inflammation, and numbness in the affected limb.

Mild cases will eventually go away, but chronic ones may require surgery. However, if you aren’t ready to take that step yet, there are some natural remedies you can try that could help you improve your condition.

As the caretaker of a mother with sciatica, I’ve spent the last couple of years looking into alternative solutions to drugs and surgery. It took me a long time, but I eventually stumbled upon a remedy that many people who live with back pain swore by: Garlic milk.

Yes, it sounds repulsive, but there are so many benefits associated with this cure that I couldn’t pass it up.

Garlic has a plethora of health benefits, including improving cardiovascular health, strengthening the immune system, preventing cancer, curing infections, and reducing inflammation.

Combined with nutrients found in milk, like calcium, protein and Vitamin B12, your body will feel the effects of this simple remedy fast.

Derived from Ayurveda practices, garlic milk is becoming more and more popular among people who have been diagnosed with sciatica and other forms of back pain, thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties. The concoction is relatively easy to make, and you won’t have to worry about any negative side effects because it is 100% natural.

My mom has noticed a lot of improvement since she started drinking garlic milk at least once a day.

Here’s the recipe:

— 4 cloves of garlic, crushed

— 250 ml of milk

— Honey, to taste

1. Place the crushed garlic cloves in the milk in a saucepan and slowly bring to a boil. Make sure the heat stays on low.

2. Stir the pot often to prevent the milk from burning to the bottom

3. Once the mixture has come to a boil, take it off the heat and let it cool

4. Add honey to sweeten the drink, then pour it in a cup and enjoy.

Garlic is a natural blood thinner, so it is advised that you only drink this once a day. Combine with your other natural remedies and stretches and you will soon see a huge improvement

Bacon brussels sprouts gratin

Brussels Sprouts are one of our favorite veggies, in spite of the fact that they don’t have the best reputation. We typically chalk up people’s distaste for the green veggie to not knowing just how delicious it can be – roasting is basically the only way to go – and therefore not realizing how great it is, and we try to do our parts to show everyone what a great ingredient it is. Here, we took some lightly roasted brussels (gotta get a little color on them) and then made a creamy, cheesy, flavorful gratin to showcase them and make everyone fall in love with them…you need to try this!

The key here is roasting your sprouts ahead of time. Not only does this ensure that your veggies will be perfectly tender by the time they’re cooked in the gratin and come out of the oven, but roasting them gives amazing flavor that takes everything up a notch. Add to that the crumbled bacon, cheese and rosemary, and you’ve got yourself a side dish that’ll steal the show. At least that’s what happened at our dinner!
