Artist transforms old farm equipment into incredible sculptures like none you’ve seen

Recreating the wild wild west out of discarded farm equipment, South Dakota-based artist John Lopez’s amazing metal sculptures will blow your mind! Check them out below:

Eco-friendly and full of personality, these welded figures perfectly capture the iconography of the American West — a bison, a horse with a plow, a Texas Longhorn — a past reconfigured out of recycled materials.

Lopez began his career as a bronze sculptor, but realized the versatility of scrap metal when he forged a family grave for his deceased aunt. It creates a unique aesthetic, a kind of mishmash punk sensibility in his beautiful and imposing artwork.

It pays respect to the past while also playing with the idea of renewing and reconfiguring familiar imagery into something completely different. Where have you seen a cowboy riding a dinosaur before?

“My favorite part about these pieces is the texture,” explains Lopez. “I just start grabbin’ stuff from the pile and welding it, in and if you weld enough of the same thing on over and over it creates this really cool texture that I’ve never seen in these kinds of pieces before. And I think that’s what draws people in.”

Blurring the line between organic, artificial, and symbol, Lopez’s art is sure to leave an impact! It’s striking how well they blend into the Midwestern scenery.

Ugly medieval paintings of cats

While medieval artists excelled at painting religious scenes, portraits of royalty and naked ladies, cats offered an altogether different challenge. It looks like the medieval painters never laid eyes on a cat.

25+ more brutally honest illustrations by Pawel Kuczynski show what’s wrong with today’s society

Observations of modern society, our habits and obsessions, are an important tool to have as we try to make sense of a rapidly changing world.

Sometimes we need to step back, slow down and look at ourselves with fresh eyes. Only then do the absurdities and flaws that we seem to have accepted as the norm become evident, and we can begin to question them.

Polish artist Pawel Kuczynski is an absolute master of this, combining powerful social commentary and satire with beautifully illustrated pieces, to make us sit back and reassess our priorities. “From the beginning I found that illustration was the best way to express my observations,” Pawel told Rasplove. “I always say, that I’m an illustrator of a surrealistic time, so that is reflected in my work.”

Pawel began his career outside of his native Poland in order to focus on more global issues. “I wanted to be understandable for all peoples,” he told us. “I try not to speak directly about current problems. I try to find a wider view. Some times it’s too wide! I receive many different kinds of opinion from people, that I’m old communist, liberal, fascist, conservative, anti-technological man, etc.”

In light of recent allegations surrounding Facebook and our data, the unjust wars that continue to rage around us, poverty, inequality and environmental degradation everywhere, these illustrations are highly relevant and deeply thought-provoking. What does Pawel think about the technology that we seem to be so in thrall to? “Facebook and other technological innovations are just the tools. It depends on us, for what kind of purposes we will use them.”

This artist makes animals out of the stones she finds

When we think about art, we often think of stretched canvas, hung in museum hallways or on living room walls. But there’s no rule saying that painters have to paint on traditional canvas. Hardwood, paper, plastic and metal are all acceptable painting surfaces. In fact, Japanese artist Akie Nakata, who goes by Akie, uses found stones and rocks and transforms them into super realistic-looking animals.

Akie is inspired by the natural shapes of stones, and first had the idea for her unique creations after encountering a pebble that looked like a rabbit. She does not reshape the stones themselves in any way, instead choosing to work with what she finds. She explained to My Modern Met that she asks herself questions to ensure she’s making the right choice: “Am I positioning the backbone in the right place? Does it feel right? Am I forcing something that disagrees with the natural shape of the stone?”

She paints the stone surfaces with acrylic paint to bring her creations to life. Although the stones are not living creatures, Akie believes that they have their own “stories to tell” and tries to let the stones “speak to her.”

She showcases her work on Instagram, where she has more than 15,000 followers, and also on her Facebook page. Check out this incredibly detailed owl:

Sometimes, Akie makes her creations available for sale, which she announces on Facebook. She does not take custom orders or advance reservations for any work in progress or future work because she uses the stones she finds as the source of her inspiration.

While we can’t guarantee that you’ll turn out anything half as amazing as Akie’s work, there are tons of ideas out there about how to make cool crafts by painting rocks, like these kindness rocks from the blog Mod Podge Rocks! that are emblazoned with inspiring messages:

12 ideas for saving space in the bathroom

If you’re living in a small apartment and your bathroom is tiny, you’ll need to be clever about how you organize your space so that it remains functional but also feels comfortable and not cramped. This means thinking long and hard about how to arrange your furniture, towels, hygiene products, toiletries etc. so that everything has its place, and is accessible, but still pleasing to the eye.

This can be a challenge and while not each of these 12 tips will suit your style or individual taste, they might inspire you to think about how you can create more space in your bathroom.

1. Hanging baskets

Baskets come in all colors, shapes and sizes and are ideal as storage space in a bathroom. They are sturdy enough to hold just about anything and can look really stylish if presented nicely.

2. Pull-out drawers in cabinets

Pull-out drawers in cabinets are ideal for areas where there is enough depth but not much width and you’ll be surprised by how much additional storage space you’ll gain with them. Another great advantage of pull-out drawers or shelves is that everything is at your fingertips, convenient and accessible from both sides.

3. Magnets conquer chaos

Small items such as hairpins, nail files, tweezers etc. are fiddly and difficult to locate when you’re rummaging around your toiletries bag. Simply attach a magnetic strip to the inside of your bathroom cabinet and you’ll no longer have to search for things that really should always be readily available and right there in front of you.

4. Inbuilt bathtub storage space

The sides of this bathtub fold out to reveal plenty of storage space for all kinds of bathroom or cleaning products. What’s great is that everything is neatly stowed away and is barely visible. It doesn’t add a single bit of clutter, quite the contrary, it makes great use of otherwise wasted space.

5. Space above the door

Have you ever thought to look up? You’ll find that in most cases, there is enough room for one or two shelves just above the door. A hidden gem!

6. Clever towel rack

Wet towels need to be hung out to dry somewhere but this often takes up a lot of space. By putting a second rail in front of the shower curtain, you’ll solve this problem and always have your towel at hand.

7. Rolled towels

There is something quite special about rolled towels, maybe because they remind us of hotels or spas but they are also incredibly practical. Folding towels into squares is just so tedious and they also tend to protrude more than if they are rolled and neatly tucked away on a narrow shelf.

8. Washing machine stacked up

If your cabinet is sturdy enough, you can stack your washing machine on top of it. Another good idea is stacking the washing machine on top of the dryer or vice versa. You’ll save space and time moving laundry from one to the other.

9. Bathtub laundry rack

Bathtub laundry racks are ideal for drying your wet clothes. They take up very little space and because there is usually a window in the bathroom, using them means your clothes are somewhere ideal for allowing the moisture to escape.

10. Legs under the sink

Your bathroom is tiny but you can’t do without your bathtub? Well, time to be a bit creative. Try looking into bathtubs that are narrower at one end, that way you could still mount your sink above it. As they say, «Where there’s a will, there’s a way!»

11. Toilet cabinet

There is so much potential for the space around toilets. For example, special cabinets can be fitted precisely in narrow spaces, providing new storage possibilities for small items or decorative pieces that add to the overall aesthetic appeal.

12. A cloud of toilet rolls

This creative shelf not only provides an ideal place to store toilet paper, but it is also extremely decorative and adds an almost heavenly feel to your bathroom!

A small bathroom will always be a small bathroom. But with a few clever ideas here and there, you can create useful storage space while keeping things stylish and comfortable.

Incredible illustrations by cambodian artist that will leave you speechless

Cambodian artist Visoth Kakvei, a 27-year-old graphic designer, magnificently combines symbolism and style in his illustrations, and no sketchbook has enough pages to fit all his creativity.

He usually draws his works freehand, so his pieces take three to six hours to finish, but Kakvei often feels it’s not enough. So, to make his amazingly intriguing maze-like drawings even more breathtaking, he digitally enhances them, making the doodles seem like they are popping out from the pages.

18 fascinating images show how we all hold our own perspective on life

Life is all a matter of perspective. Everything depends on the angle we’re looking at it. Even when two people narrate the same story, they’ll do it in different ways, which proves that every individual has their own unique view. Sometimes, the most challenging thing in the world for anyone is to let go of their perspective and try being in someone else’s shoes. However, people who can do this come out as a bit more stable since it’s easier for them to re-evaluate and appreciate their lives by looking at someone else’s point of view.

The following 18 pictures depict how we all view life from a different perspective:

In this picture, both are stranded and are glad to have found help. However, they don’t know that they’re ‘riding the same boat’ in reality. So, each might have a different perspective on the same situation.

That’s a way of looking at the bright side. While one prisoner has restricted himself to staring at the grilled window, the other one looks at what is beyond the grills. It’s all about having a positive or negative outlook towards life.

Now and then, you should turn things upside down to look at a situation from someone else’s perspective. It’s always helpful to try and view things differently.

That’s about the two choices life gives each one of us; either you’ll sit, sulk and whine about how mean and unfair life is to you, or you’ll try to figure out how to transform a difficult situation into a new exciting challenge.

You possibly know what Ivan Pavlov’s experiment was all about (it was meant to condition dogs to salivate each time they heard a bell). What if though the dogs were also running an experiment of their own? Any situation will always have multiple points of view.

Both characters have their priorities and are happy leading life in their way. There’s no right or wrong point of view. Every person is different and so are their choices, thoughts, and decisions. We need to learn to respect individuality.

The image depicts the harsh truth regarding money and wealth. A more enlightened mind is much more valuable than one that’s running after money. Knowledge makes us smarter and much more aware of how to deal with various situations. Money isn’t all that matters!

To the guy neck deep in water, it might seem like he is drowning. However, the guy standing tall in the image views the situation quite differently. They both appear to be right about their perspectives, right?

So would you count three sticks or four? Which side are you on? The funny thing is that both answers are right.

We all love to run away from the reality if it doesn’t adhere to what we want in our lives. People tend to turn a blind eye or a deaf ear towards the truth when it’s harsh and does not match their outlook.

It’s not hard to lose yourself in a pack of millions. But remember, only if you change the way you view yourself, you ‘ll be able to change how the rest of the world sees you.

That confuses us all, but that’s precisely the point, from side A it appears to be a six and from side B it seems to be a nine. There’s no right side as both are saying what they’re seeing.

It might not feel comfortable to try and view things from a different perspective. However, you have to be on the other side to really feel what somebody else might be going through.

The grass always looks greener on the other side. People do not know what the man in the middle of the image is thinking. However, it certainly seems like he is satisfied with his tiny spot.

Put six different people in front of one thing, and they’ll have six different interpretations of it.

The battle between mind and heart will never end. Change the way you deal with an object, and you can change the entire situation.

Here is a situation which is becoming more and more common in this day and age. Several parents spend most of their time working. As they’re caught up with their work, their kid is lost, with a harsher truth of life waiting for them.

Happiness comes at a price. This comic panel has a deep, dark meaning to it. In the modern world, money can buy you happiness. However, it’s not in everyone’s fortune.
